Sail Boats: Short Story

The bay scented the air as it blew through Eliza’s hair. She watched the sail boats drift by. Summer was around the corner and that meant her best friend would be back.

Eliza was named after Eliza Bennet from her mom’s favorite book, Pride and Prejudice. She had never read it but she planned to over the summer.

It has been a long school year, Eliza attended West Virginia University studying to be a nurse. While Caleb attended NYU studying the law. At the end of their freshman and sophomore years they found themselves back at home sitting on the docks watching the sail boats. But last summer Caleb didn’t come home. He had met someone and he spent the summer with her. Eliza wasn’t bothered by it, until she realized she missed his commentary on the sail boats. Missing the brown hair that would get blown over his hazel eyes. Maybe she always loved him. When Christmas came and Caleb brought his girlfriend home. He had his hair cut and styled short and wore a suit. He looked nothing like the Caleb she knew. He had asked Eliza to keep her distance because apparently his girlfriend wasn’t fond of the idea of a girl being best friends with Caleb. So from a distance Eliza observed. She had hoped that the feelings would go away with time, but by the time she was back in her apartment by the college that she realized those feelings were staying put.

She almost didn’t come home this summer. Yet the pull of the bay, the docks and the steamed crabs her dad made was strong. That is why Eliza was sitting on the dock watching the sail boats. She had her black hair in a messy bun on top her head and her big sunglasses shielded her blue eyes from the sun. When she heard familiar footsteps and out of the corner of her eye see Caleb easing himself next to her on the dock hair grown out and looking so much like himself her heart started to ache. Then he took her hand in his own and looked out at the sail boats. Eliza smiled and knew that summer would be different.

Everything Everything: Book Chat

So my week started with a trip to my local library. I have been in a reading slump, no motivation to read what so ever. So my solution was to get as many books as I felt I could read before I had to return them. And I tried to pick books in my to-read pile on Goodreads. I started out with Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon.

You guys….. You have to read this. It was such a sweet story and I was hardcore cheering for our cute couple Madeline and Olly. Seriously, how cute are they?!

We start off by meeting Madeline. Trapped in her house because she has a rare disease known as SCID. She is content with the cards she was dealt until a cute boy by the name of Olly moves in next door changing her world forever.

She decides to risk everything for love and she finds out that not everything is as they seem.

So my thoughts:

I suffer from seasonal allergies and can not begin to fathom being allergic to everything. I am not really an insta love fan, but the beginning interaction between Olly and Madeline was super sweet. I loved that she was willing to risk everything, and he was willing to protect her from everything but at the same time wanted to do anything. It was such a sweet story and I was hardcore cheering for Olly and Madeline.

I spent a day in it’s pages and wished that there were more pages. That was my only complaint it was to short! I gave this book 5 stars.

What about you? Have you read Everything Everything? If so let me know what you thought!

Till next time!

A Study In Charlotte: Book Review

Like the new look? I like how clean everything looks right now.

So, I just finished A Study In Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro.

This is one of those books that I simply enjoyed. There wasn’t anything that really stood out, and there were some parts that were alittle slow but over all I gave it a 4 star rating on Goodreads.

So we are introduced to Charlotte Holmes and Jamie Watson. You can tell right off that these two are destined to be best friends. And I won’t lie, I totally ship them.

I loved the connections to some classic Sherlock Holmes mysteries, it made it interesting and you got to see how much these two took after their ancestors.

I loved the snarky lines and Jamie naming the skeletons.

One thing that I thought was nice to see that Charlotte had an emotional side, but it was sad that she feels that she needs to hide it. Jamie was her friend despite not understanding why she was doing what she was doing. The chemistry didn’t feel insta lovey, but something deep. Maybe it’s in the blood?

Have you read A Study In Charlotte? Let me know what you thought!

What I am Watching

Well it’s that time of year, where I am watching different TV shows since the last time I talked about what I was watching.  So Last times I chatted about what I was watching. I mentioned Downton Abbey and Shadowhunters, to name a couple.

  • Downton Abbey was amazing. I am really sad that it is over and I will miss the characters, the beautiful lines. it was just beautiful.
  • Shadowhunters……. I am going to be honest with you, I stopped watching it after the third episode. I was finding myself comparing the books and the show, and I was super critical. I decided that I was done. I know that people were starting to get into it by the 5th episode, but I couldn’t do it. Nothing was the way I personally imagined the world to be.. I am not going to bash the show because there were people who really enjoyed and to that I say: good for you! It just wasn’t for me. I am just going to reread the books for my shadowhunter fix.

Now to what I am watching now.

  • Greys Anatomy, I was not sure how this season would play out and I am loving this season! The episodes have been fantastic, and I am totally shipping Japril..
  • Outlander, I am going to do episode chats for Outlander. But so far, I LOVE IT!

What are you watching right now?

Wink Poppy Midnight- Book Review

This book. Let me say that this book messed with my head. Seriously messed with my mind.

If your reading my blog for the first time, I started a book club and   Wink Poppy Midnight by April Genevieve Tucholke was the book we read for the Month of April.

|Review|

Just reading the inside cover you know there is a hero, a villain and a liar. I felt like I knew who was who and I was wrong. Then I switched and then when it was revealed who was who. The heir was easy enough and but the liar?? Why??? What creepy psychotic children….

Poppy comes off as mean.

Wink seems hopelessly romantic.

Midnight seemed to be a normal boy stuck in the middle of a couple of nut jobs.

Then there was the reason behind the chaos.. I went from thinking how creepy to feeling sorry.

Over all I enjoyed this book, the writing was beautiful and haunting at the same time.

I gave this book 4 stars but added the extra star for messing with my head. Grab a copy and read it!

Till next time!

The Outlander Book Tag

I hope you all have had a wonderful weekend! I meant to blog yesterday but ended up with a case writers block. Well I have a tag for you today.

Sasha Alsberg on YouTube made this tag and you should seriously go check it out here: The Outlander Book Tag

Of course when I saw this tag, I had to do it. I mean come on, it’s Outlander! I love Outlander; the books ( so far) and the TV show. I will currently be reading Dragonfly in Amber while I watch season two.

Just as a disclaimer: I recommend Outlander for those of the age 18 and over due to content. And you don’t have to read Outlander to do this tag! So here we go!

The Outlander Book Tag

  1. You touch some standing stones and get transported back in time, what year would you hope to land in? For me this a hard one but I would totally want to go to 1743 😉 it would be rough but there is Jamie Fraser so…..I think I’ll be okay!
  2. Claire is a very good nurse, what type of skill would you want to have that a fictional character excels at? I do not own any books with a character with this skill i don’t think but I would want to be a seamstress. Learning how to see clothes and even if  need be stitch up a wound..
  3. Jamie and Claire are the ultimate relationship goals, who is your favorite fictional couple? Well, I think I am going to pick Matthias and Nina from Six of Crows. I loved their relationship and I ship them.
  4. The ending of Outlander was shocking, what is one book that totally blew your mind? I am going to go with Passenger. The way it ended was just…. Ugh… I need the sequel!
  5. Scotland has lots of castles and we see a few in Outlander, what fictional kingdom would you want as your own ( castle included)? I have no clue… Oh wait. Narnia, I want Narnia.
  6. Outlander has some very steamy scenes, what is your favorite romantic novel? I don’t read a whole lot of romance novels, actually hardly any at all. So, I am going to go with The Wrath and the Dawn. The romance was done so well in that book!
  7. The Jacobite Rising was a huge plot point in the Outlander series, what book has your favorite battle in it? I always liked the battle scene in Girl in Blue was super good. Not graphic or anything but I liked the historical aspect.
  8. Jamie and Claire get married very unexpectedly, what fictional character would you want to marry on a whim? I am going to go with Jamie for this one. I don’t even need to think about it.
  9. Scotland is a beautiful place, what is one fictional world would you love to visit? Avonlea. I am an Anne-girl at heart and I would love to visit.
  10. If you could change the past, would you? No. I wouldn’t. I believe that everything happens for a reason. 🙂

I really enjoyed this tag and I tag you! Go and let me know if you do it!

Till next time!
