Passenger: Book Review

There was a lot of hype around this book. I had picked up this book a couple of times before I actually decided that I was going to buy it and I was going to read it. This was one of those books that I wasn’t sure that I would like it; much like Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. However, this year I decided that not only was I going to expand my library despite the possibility of moving and just give the book a chance. You never know how good the book will be unless you actually open it up and give it a chance.

Passenger by Alexandra Bracken. I ended up giving this book a 5 star rating despite feeling like the story started a tad slow. Once I got more into it and started to see the whole picture, I was all in. The cover is gorgeous too. Bonus.

Passenger introduces us to Henrietta and Nicholas. Henrietta goes by Etta and we follow her as she learns that she is a traveler and ends up on this treasure hunt with a dashing pirate. The way time traveling is explained is so different then anything I have ever read before. I loved also the history and how each place they went was in a different year but same day. So unique.

I also loved the fact that Nicholas is a man of color. We don’t see interracial relationships a lot in books. The way that the author tackles racism and the struggles that Nicholas has to go through but overcomes. I loved his character and totally ship Etta and Nicholas. They need to be together!

Etta’s mom… she was a real peach… I don’t quite understand her reasons for the things she does… and so far I am not impressed with her along side Cryus and Sophia…. not a fan of those characters.

The ending… what the heck?!?! Was not expecting that at all! The sequel is not scheduled to be released till this fall… Well played. I hate that I have to wait for what feels like forever to get my hands on the sequel. Looks like this fall will be a busy one for me.

In the end? I loved it. I recommend it for those who have wanderlust, because after reading I now want to go find a passage and visit the countries and the years.. The world was beautifully described and I am in serious need for travel!

If you have read it, what were your thoughts?

Till next time!
